I solemly swear I am up to no good
Did that seriously just happen?

To me?

I got a DM on twitter a few hours ago, which I didn't see 'til about an hour or so ago, from a book publicist wanting to send me a copy of PRIDE AND PROMETHUS (!!!) in exchange for a review to be posted on my twitter and instagram on the release date (February 13, 2018). Oh boy I've never had a deadline before *keels over*

They're sending out copies of the ARC(?) later this week and I CAN'T WAIT!!

Have I mentioned it stars Mary Bennet (who's Elizabeth Bennet Darcy? I don't have a clue! *winks*)and Victor Frankenstein??
I first read the short story with the same name years ago and it NEVER left my mind and when I found out the author (John Kessel) was doing novel-length version I squealed with delight! And since I read that DM I haven't stopped squealing!

The very last time I got a free book in the mail it was the Star Wars EU novel in which CHEWIE GETS KILLED OFF BY A FREAKING MOON

Since I have to real place to put my review on twitter I think I'm going to post it here THEN link it to Twitter and the on instagram ( need wi-fi for that. So watch this space!!

The only thing better than me getting a copy of the Pride And Prometheus ARC would be getting a movie based on that books (Please gods of books and movies MAKE IT HAPPEN!!)

For those interested, my instagram and my twitter accounts are under the same username (brandyjewelle)

You wouldn't believe how rough these past couple of years have been

-My father died in Sept 2014 - (heart attack)
-My Aunt (father's sister) died in Oct 2014 - (blood clot)
-One of my brothers basically cheats me my third of Dad's estate (he made a fake will, Daddy didn't have a will ((my Aunt said as much as did our cousin V)), where he and my other brother got everything and all I got was $100 and Dad's Budweiser beer mug collection (5 or 6 of them) (Late 2014 -Early 2016)
-June 2016 My brother shot himself, he was 53 and his birthday was last month
-My Uncle died (previously mentioned Aunt's husband)
-My cat Missy/Tina/Gracie was mauled and had to be put to sleep (she was the neighborhood's cat really but we all took care of her and fed her and loved her)
-And and Monday my step-nephew died he was 28 (a train hit him, I can only hope it was painless) - I had not seen him for years and I only really knew him when he was a kid before my parents got a divorce. He'd been in trouble with the law multiple times (like his step-father who is my brother and his step-uncle ((my other brother )) )

And I just totally broke down as I was listening to "Who lives, who dies, who tells your story?" damn shuffle

And now I'm trying to bury myself in reading Hamilton fanfics (I prefer Modern AU's. and I'm a Hamilton/Laurens shipper)

Sorry for whining but as I said I can't really put this anywhere else

A few times a week I google "Mary Bennet" to see if any new news stories pop up. Happily I found a new behind-the-scenes pic on instagram fron the 2005 version of "Pride and Prejudice" (originally posted on Jena Malone's official site) of Talulah Riley. It's quite lovely. (no i did not hotlink from Jena's site)

There's Something About Mary Bennet

The things that make Pride and Prejudice’s middle sister so unappealing as a supporting character are precisely what make her compelling as a star.

Poor Mary. When she pays attention to her at all, Pride and Prejudice’s narrator describes the middle Bennet sibling—younger sister to Jane and Elizabeth, older sister to Kitty and Lydia—as someone who, possessing neither “genius nor taste,” often “wished to say something very sensible,” but—oof—“knew not how.” Mary navigates the world with “a pedantic air and conceited manner, which would have injured a higher degree of excellence than she had reached.” (Ooooof.) A little bit Mr. Collins, a little bit Lady Edith, a little bit Tracy Flick, Mary is at once introverted and attention-hungry, well-read and insipid, vain and insignificant. She is also, her novel’s acerbic storyteller makes a point of informing us, “the only plain one in the family.”

n spite of all this, though, recent years have seen a proliferation of Mary-related—and, indeed, Mary-focused—fiction. There’s 2009’s The Independence Of Miss Mary Bennet, an exploration of the escapades Mary enjoyed after her sisters were married, written by Colleen McCullough, the other of The Thorn Birds. There’s Jennifer Paynter’s 2014 The Forgotten Sister: Mary Bennet’s Pride and Prejudice, which narrates the events of Austen’s novel from Mary’s point of view. There’s also Pamela Mingle’s The Pursuit of Mary Bennet: A Pride and Prejudice Novel, which offers Mary an alternate romantic subplot. And A Match For Mary Bennet, which does the same.

The one thing I hate about the "Pride and Prejudice and Zombies" audiobook (it's of the deluxe version. Is that the narrator is constantly shortening sentences or leaving them out altogether ! And it's supposed to be the unabridged version. That is why I've never finished listening to it. I wanted to hear my favorite bits or favorite lines only to have them disappear or cut short it just pisses med off but at least I get to hear Seth(?) narrate his "Preface to the Deluxe Edition"

Also in the movie-cover edition of PPZ theres the illustrations from the deluxe version but sadly in black and white only.

In the Appendix there's the Afterword, the "Reader's Discussion Guide" and the newly added (I think) "Why England?: A Sermon by Rev. Richard Manville" on why was England the only country in the world that was covered in Unmentionables. And if you were lucky enough to find it at Walmart you'd get a free mini-poster within the book as well.

I've loved this book ever since it was released and I have a decent collection of PPZ things. an 2011 calender, the graphic novel, the original edition of PPZ, the prequel and the sequel (which don't quite mesh with the canon from the original book, but mesh well with each other) and the Deluxe heirloom edition and the ebooks for all 4 (but not the graphic novel) and the audiobook as I've mentioned before. There's probably with bigger collections but I'm proud of mine.

Because I can I'm posting the lyrics to "Love Crime (Amuse-Bouche Version)"

Oh, the skies, tumbling from your eyes
So sublime, the chase to end all time
Seasons call and fall, from grace and uniform
Anatomical and metaphysical

Oh, the die, It's cast inside my mind

Oh, the dye, a blood red setting sun
rushing through my veins
burning up my skin,
I will survive, live and thrive
Win this deadly game

Love crime (Love crime)
Love crime

I will survive, live and thrive
I will survive,
I will

And then there's the original version from Hannibal

Read more...Collapse )

Very little difference but I am a lyric freak

Just reached Chapter 7 of "The Queen of the Tearling" It's pretty good so far but I do wish the characters would stop beating us over the head with their "I don't believe in God. I don't believe in God! I don't believe in God!!!! And those who do are EVIL" routine. I mean there's just so much of that I can take without feeling overwhelmed by it.

Oh dear lord. there's going to be a 10th anniversary edition of Twilight with all sorts of extras..... It's better than Grey I suppose (from the 50 Shades of Grey series) but not by too much (I wonder will it have what little there is of Midnight Sun?) Will she do the same for the other three (main) book in the series (because It's NOT a saga Meyer).

There are truly no words right now. Found out today that my Daddy dies sometime within the past couple of days. I'm a mess. Too many emotions going on right now.

One minute I'm crying my eyes out the next I'm numb. Then I'm distracting myself watching Doctor Who on TV. Then odd as it seems I'm relieved. He wasn't really sick but since his car accident in 2011 he's never really been the same. Sunday I have to meet with my brother and other family members to sort out the funeral arrangements. I'm also angry in case you couldn't tell. Angry because he was too damn lazy to see to this stuff (funeral arrangements) before his accident SO that we, his three kids wouldn't have to later.

Relieved and grateful, though selfish as it seems, that I'll never have to go to his home again (once we sort out his things) relieved that I'll never have to sit though another (of many) his temper tantrums of how that WHOLE world is out to get him and his money (including the Doctors who were trying to help him)

All I know is that I don't want to see his body until it's in a casket because I don't want to see him any other way now. If they try to make me look before then, I won't I don't know how these things work, I've never had to make funeral arrangements before. I hoped I wouldn't have had to for at least a few more years.

Is it selfish of me to say that I both won't and will (in the way I remember him when I was a child) miss him?

I'm just having a hard time processing everything

Today's my birthday and I'm officially 39. One year 'til I'm 40. Good news though, I still look like I'm in my early-to mid 20's.

Better news, I get Cherry Garcia today!
